Today I’m beginning a 30-day declutter challenge. My goal is to simplify (and green) my home. It’s something I’ve been working on gradually for a while but with the days getting longer and the weather getting warmer, I’m craving simple, clear spaces even more than before and am eager to see progress more quickly.
So for the next 30 days I will spend at least 15 min each morning decluttering just after breakfast (early to capture that fresh motivation for the day). I’ll be sharing my progress here…
Today I did my daily cluttering before deciding on the 15 min goal so I’m not sure how long it took but here’s what I did:
- Dug deep into a little-used kitchen cabinet; found 2 bowls and 3 cups we don’t use. They’re headed for Goodwill.
- Remembered we had some plastic sandwich boxes gifted for picnics. I’ve since found metal ones. The plastic ones are headed for Goodwill.
- Cleared off my desk, put away books that are in progress and notes with things that need to be done. Replaced the pen holder I didn’t like much, with a small mason jar we weren’t using. Enjoyed the way the sunlight coming through the bay window plays off the glass and how removing something I didn’t like shifted how I feel about that space.
- Cleaned out a messy corner of the shower, scrubbed the shower caddy and tiles and put everything back in order.
- Pulled the growing Goodwill pile out of the back of the closet and sorted it on the side of my bedroom I use for prepping donations.
What I learned: today’s efforts were a bit scattered. Tomorrow I plan to focus my time on one area so I can see more progress (and resist the urge to change tasks when it gets hard).
As for tomorrow’s focus, it’s currently a tie between finishing up the desk and attacking a corner of the closet. I’ll see where I feel inspired to focus when morning comes…
